Michael Caruso and Dean Fiore finished as the highest Nissan in an impressive 5th place. Michael started the event very strongly, recording the 2nd fastest time in opening practice on Friday. With an eye kept on Saturday’s rain forecast, the afternoon was spent ran through driver changes and other elements that are not weather dependent. The #23 Nissan NISMO pairing on Caruso and Fiore were among to continue their strong after running 6th at Bathurst two weeks earlier. had the rain not effected the event in over a decade Caruso was to take part in his first qualifying session in the rain around the streets of Gold Coast. the session ran well for Caruso managing to steer his way to an impressive 4th. The duo battled through treacherous weather conditions to bring the car home at the pointy end.

“We’ve got to be happy with that. We finished where deserved to be and banked up a good amount of points. When you’re dicing with the likes of Whincup and Van Gisbergen, it shows we’re obviously doing a good job. We’ll rest and go again tomorrow. The conditions were tough, but after you finish Bathurst without a windscreen wiper anything else is pretty straightforward.”
